What’s New
Since we have completed most of our studies we are enjoying a more relaxed school week. Unfortunately for me I have been plagued with a migraine for several days this week, which makes day to day life a bit challenging.
Reading
Christopher completed LU 104 and scored a 100 on his exam. He began LU 105. This is the final unit of reading.
I cant believe we have reached the final units of LA and reading.
LA
He completed LU 109 and scored a 100 on his exam. He began LU 110 the final unit. We learned more about apostrophes this week. Apostrophes can be used in contractions and to show belonging. We also worked more with adding suffixes after y.
Christopher was assigned his third writing assignment. This time he had to pick from a teacher photo and write a story about what is happening in the picture. He must name characters and come up with dialogue between the characters. Christopher selected a picture where he and his brothers were playing a game of Connect Four. This picture was taken by my Aunt Pat who spent some time with us last year. The story should be interesting.
History
We completed our chapters on Julius Caesar. Julius died a terrible death betrayed by his friend Brutus and members of the senate that could not stand him being in power. We learned that the months July and August come from Julius and Octavian (Caesar’s nephew) who changed his name to Augustus Caesar.
FIAR
We finally got to complete our craft for The Yellow Ball by Molly Bang.
We read another selection Blueberries for Sal and will go Blueberry picking soon.
In addition we have joined the summer reading program at the library and are eager to reach our goals for the summer. This is the stack of books we read this week. One of the books is our new Story bible. I ordered it for next year but I am already using it in our morning devotionals. One of my favorites was The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. I remember my mother reading that story to me as a child. I wish I could locate the copy I had as a child the pictures are still emblazoned on my brain. But any way adventures of the naughty rabbit are good for children at any age.
Preschool
Joshua is slowly expanding his vocabulary. Here we have a book with lots of words and as I say a word on the picture he points to it. He worked a lot with puzzles as well.
Goals for next week
Decide on what electronic planner I will use for next year. I have narrowed my selections down to two. Each year I go through this and every year I decide to continue on with the current planner. But I am really not happy so I have to make another selection.
Next I have to spend some time cleaning the house. I went out of town and came back and there is a ton of stuff to do. My husband and I completed a storage stand that is outside the classroom and now I have to transfer items from the hodgepodge bins to the new storage unit and finish cleaning the dinning room table. It has been covered with books while I was planning for next school year.
