Bring snacks and drinks! It sounds very simple and you are probably already doing this when you travel but this is a huge budget saver. A considerable portion of your vacation budget will go towards food. Either you will be cooking your meals or dinning out. If you plan ahead by bringing pre approved snacks and drinks it will be easier to stick to your food allowance.
Prior to our departure I baked two loafs of banana bread. I made a batch of granola and my own trail mix. Go ahead and laugh, I know what your saying homemade granola and trail mix. That’s right I’m a hippie, I know but my boys love it and helps keep our appetites under control while on the go. The batches were rather large so they were divided into smaller quart bags so that I could pull out a bag for the day when we went out for outings. Easy and simple.
Since I anticipated we would be walking a lot in the hot sun. I only purchased water and Gatorade. That meant there were only two options for hydration during the day. You will find that arguments and whining are drastically reduced when choices are limited.
