One day I was reading a friends blog where she mentioned she would be sewing her kids pajamas. That got me thinking, maybe I could sew pajamas as well. Sewing has been on my to do list for quite some time. I purchased a machine when Christopher was a newborn. Then I sewed a hat, that still isn’t finished. My sewing machine sat in my closet for four then I let a friend borrow it. She kept the machine for four years and created many wonderful things with it. She even made dresses for orphan children in Haiti after the earthquake. Last week, I picked up my machine had it serviced and went to the fabric store.
I’ve always wanted the family to have matching Christmas pajamas. If I start sewing now perhaps my skills will improve tremendously in order to sew this Christmas set of pajamas for the entire family. So project sewing has begun. Crazy as it seems, I feel I’m up to the task. It gets my creative juices going. Plus there aren’t many things you can make for boys, but pj’s are cute and functional so I can’t go wrong. My boys pj’s are always too short so I figure this would be a perfect niche I can have. Besides who wouldn’t want mommy made pajamas?
First the boys each picked a bolt of fabric.
Then I created the pattern from their current jeans or pajamas.
Here are my first finished pieces.
There are three other pairs to construct. Hopefully I will complete those this week.
The pajamas are not perfect however, they are useable and I am building my confidence and preparing myself for the bigger holiday project. I’m actually happy with the results.
I will not be sewing tops but I will create decorative tops for boys. I will share that idea on a future post.
Wish me luck.
