One thing I have learned is to keep it simple. Initially I did not take that advice and I find myself with a lot of stuff this year. Next year i am going to put my curriculum together differently. So here are three must haves. The first book The Three R's was great in helping me teach my son to read. I still use a lot of the suggestions and continually come back to it because it has helpful hints for early elementary.
Next is The Homeschooling Handbook. You do not have to have this exact one but a good book that can answer all your questions about homeschooling and point you in the right direction for additional websites and resources. Finally I found this book Making the Grade Everything Your Kindergartner Needs to Know. This book is not meant to be used as curriculum but you can use it to supplement or guide you as you put together your academic goals for the year.
